1967 Ford Mustang Fastback: The Complete Guide

The 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback has a robust performance and an advanced suspension system. It is the first redesigned form of the car.
The year 1967 brought the first-ever major redesign of the Mustang. The 1967 Ford Mustang was regarded by most people as an advancement of earlier model years. It came with an aggressive appearance, an improved suspension system, and a more powerful performance.

Body Styles

The vehicle came in 3 types of body styles:
• Coupe
• Fastback
• Convertible

Grille Styles

The 1967 Mustang Fastback had a front end that was different from the earlier ones. 3 grills that appeared adjacent to the headlights on the 1965 and 1966 versions of the Mustang were gone. The front grille was also varied. It featured horizontal and vertical bars that worked in all 4 directions from the galloping horse. The grille opening was also larger than the earlier versions. The front end, in a redesigned form, ensured a muscular Mustang.

Rear Styles

The manufacturer made the grille opening larger, in order to provide the Mustang look more mean due to the concave rear taillight panel. The fastback in the redesigned form reaches to the rear part of the trunk all the way. You can notice simulated panel scoops on all the 3 models on the rear quarters.
Wheel Styles
On the ‘67 Mustang Fastback, the standard wheel covers was a 21-spoke wheel cover or a 21-spoke wheel cover. The steel wheel of optional style came with a blue center cap and had a wider trim ring, which made them wider.


This is a 1967 model. The vehicle was wider and longer, the wheelbase of 108 inches was kept the same. On the ‘67 Mustang, the interior was redesigned. The Ford Mustang 1967 came with a new dash and had integral air conditioning and the Rally-Pac. On the fastback model, fold-down rear seat and tilt-away steering wheel were the two new options.


The 390ci was the new engine added to the line-up. The 390, rated at 320hp, came with one 600cfm Holley four-barrel carburetor with manifolds and cast iron intake. Every Mustang with the 390 engine comprises of a dual exhaust system.
As many as 28,800 Mustangs equipped were created with the 390 engine. Just 472 Mustangs were created with the 289 V-8, while the 271hp 289 had the GT Equipment Group as a compulsory option.


The 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback came with various notable changes, including side scoops painted to match the car color. The side scoops in the Mustang had a chrome-plated design at earlier times. The new scoops, compared to the prior model years, resembled actual intakes more closely.
The Convertible Mustang comes sans the plastic convertible window of the earlier times. The rear window comes with two glass panes.


The Standard Convertible costs $2,898, while the Standard Coupe is priced at $2,461 and the Standard Fastback comes at $2,692.


It was in 1967 that the company name came in block lettering across the front classic Mustang edge. The feature came back only in 1974. This would be the final Mustang to come with the 289 Hi-Po Engine. These things are very useful when it comes to differentiating the 1967 version of the Ford Mustang from the 1968 version.
